Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people) bought not one, not two, but three optical networking companies today. The chip giant said it agreed to acquire Cognet, and nSerial. Both companies develop high-speed electronic components for 10-gigabit Ethernet optical modules. Intel also agreed to acquire LightLogic, a high-speed optical transponders provider. So Joe W., If an ASIC company is buying optics companies, why not some of the SAN industry doing the same, just like you have proposed?
