CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2001--Portal Software, Inc., (Nasdaq:PRSF) a leading provider of business infrastructure software for broadband, wireless Internet and next-generation communications services, announced today that Norwegian-based company TTYL will implement Infranet(R), its customer management and billing platform, as part of TTYL's own outsourced messaging services. Infranet will support TTYL's highly scalable outsourced messaging services for corporations and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) via Internet, Communication and Application Service Providers plus telcos and other messaging operators. TTYL is a subsidiary of Nextra, a Telenor company.
TTYL provides advanced messaging applications including virtual private mailboxes, secure e-mail, SMS and fax, filtering, virus scanning, and directory services through a variety of wholesalers, including ISPs, ASPs, mobile operators and software providers. Based in Oslo but operating across Europe, it offers high quality services combined with scalability and robustness. TTYL required a flexible billing platform for new product combinations and pricing structures alongside user-friendly customer self-service administration facilities.
Infranet was chosen by TTYL because of its ability to offer extensive product-price configurations with a fast time-to-market. By using Infranet with its support for multi-level customer hierarchies, TTYL can more easily design complex product bundles to meet the different customers' needs. Users not only have a single sign-on for the great variety of messaging services but will also receive a single bill for all services, and a detailed billing feed to support it.
"TTYL is a leading outsourced messaging provider in Europe, and we intend to strengthen that position. We were looking for a flexible, convergent billing solution that gives us the shortest time-to-market for new product sets. We need a vendor with an excellent reputation in the world of next generation communications services billing but wanted the freedom to choose our systems integrator too. Thanks to Infranet's open object-oriented architecture and variable geometry, we'll be able to deploy exciting new product bundles and price configurations to meet our customers' needs rapidly into the marketplace. We shall also provide a user-friendly interface for our customers to decide on the configuration of the messaging services they wish to have," said Axel Moulin, project manager, TTYL.
"Messaging is indispensable in modern business and it's now become a killer application with huge growth. TTYL's estimates of the European enterprise market show that there are over 100 million employees who need to keep in touch. Backed by Portal's expertise in rapidly-deployed yet totally flexible billing solutions, TTYL is set to enhance the availability of integrated business messaging services across Europe," commented Ian Perry, vice president, Portal Software (Europe) Ltd.
The implementation of Infranet 6.1 on a Sun UNIX platform is already underway with implementation support from Portal's business partner, Accenture. Being rolled out in several phases, the project will be completed by September 2001 with the first users being billed by the new system in June. Users will also benefit from interactive personal configurations through web-based self-service.
