It's been asserted for decades that the Israelis sank the Liberty on purpose. But there are arguments for and against that, and if the NSA has documentation from the EC-121, I would like to know how this guy got access to it.

Here's a great link that explains the traditional explanation for the attack, and addresses several of the conspiracy theories surround whether it the attack was deliberate.

shalem.org.il

The most prevalent of these theories is that due to Israel's plans to seize the Golan Heights during the midst of attempts to create a cease-fire, they were afraid that any cease fire would have stipulated no attack on the Golan.

But conflicting with the conspiracy theory is that Israel, as soon as it became known that the Liberty had been the victim of their attack, immediately rendered assistance. However, this would have been expected and would not negate some secret decison by the upper echelon to attack the ship.

But I'm certainly not going to hold the entire nation to blame for the actions of their leadership. And if this information about the secret NSA recordings are correct, then the US is just as guilty of covering it up.
