Isonics Corporation to Exhibit At SEMICON Europa 2001

GOLDEN, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2001--Isonics Corporation (NASDAQ: ISON - news) will be exhibiting its high thermal conductivity silicon-28 wafers at SEMICON Europa 2001 in Munich, Germany, April 24-26, 2001, Booth A2.750. SEMICON Europa is the largest international conference and exposition for semiconductor equipment and materials in Europe, and was established to promote international business, education, and networking opportunities for semiconductor equipment, material and service suppliers.

Isonics' ultra-pure epitaxial wafers are composed of an isotopically pure Silicon-28 (Si-28) layer grown on a standard silicon single-crystal wafer. Recent tests at the Max Planck Institute have shown that isotopically pure Si-28, with it's uniform molecular matrix, registers 60% greater thermal conductivity at room temperature than natural silicon, which contains 3 isotopes. The improved thermal characteristics of Si-28 should facilitate the manufacture of higher density integrated circuits resulting in increased performance and improved chip yields. The elegance of isotopically pure Si-28 is that while it has better properties than standard silicon, it can be used without any changes in existing silicon semiconductor manufacturing processes.

James E. Alexander, Isonics' President and CEO remarked, ``Recently, many press articles have focused on the problems of thermal management in advanced microprocessors. We expect that the properties of our improved silicon wafers will become an important part of the solution as the industry transitions to 12-inch wafers, copper interconnects, and 0.13 micron design rules. Various semiconductor manufacturers have been sampling Isonics epitaxial wafers. SEMICON Europa gives us the opportunity to meet with new potential European customers.''

Si-28 epitaxial wafers are available in 4, 5, 6, and 8-inch diameters with n-type or p-type doping to customer specifications in quantities for prototype runs. The Company is also working to provide bulk wafers made entirely of Si-28. Isonics believes that high conductivity bulk Si-28 wafers will offer a practical and cost-effective means to extend the standard fan and heat sink cooling technology well into the future.

Isonics is a world leader in isotopically engineered materials and produces isotopically pure Si-28 chemicals and wafers for the semiconductor industry. Isonics also markets and sells stable isotopes for the health care industry such as carbon-13 for diagnostic breath tests and drug design, and oxygen-18 for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Stable isotopes can be thought of as ultra pure materials. This high degree of purification provides enhanced properties as compared to natural materials.
