andreas, re:<Did you ever use Content Creation Winstone 2001 or Business Winstone 2001? These benchmarks are the worst I know. They take forever to run, you are severely restricted in what you are allowed to do (e.g. you have to use special Windows versions, the taskbar must be in the background etc.) and in the end they heavily depend on hard-disk performance.>

I do remember that Winstone 99 would not run on my system because it already had newer versions of some of the applications installed and that confused it. Then I remember reading someplace that new systems are just too fast for it, and a timing problem causes the system to hang up waiting for a mouse click.

Is that what the "taskbar in background" and "special Windows version" is about?

However, despite all these failings, Sysmark 2001 is obviously biased. I'll bet you will find that it ONLY uses bandwidth-intensive and SSE2 optimized tasks in Adobe Photoshop. Although Adobe Photoshop performance in any balanced benchmark is always far superior on the Athlon than on the P4, Adobe always writes a few special filters optimized for each Intel CPU that is released, and Intel actually distributes benchmarks using these filters with review copies of their CPU's.

I really think its time for Jerry Sanders to get off its duff and sue Intel for attempting to monopolize the benchmarking industry. Having control of Ziff Davis, Bapco, CNet, Mad Onion and SPEC is clearly monopolistic and should be dealt with.
