Actually, we didn't supply them with Aegis cause it was not seriously on the table. Taiwan could not afford the system unless it was given to them gratis; Bush turning them down is just an apparent sop to the mainlanders, in reality, the mainlanders got another thumb in the eye. The Kidds are actually the next step up, smaller then the Aegis cruiser but bigger then what they have now, available in 2003-3 as opposed to 2008 at the earliest for Aegis. The Taiwanese will gain experience with larger ships, and the Kidds have excellent capability as well.
