--2000 heretics were executed during two inquisitions.
--Tens of thousands died in seven crusades over 100's of years.
Non-Christian Carnage:
--35,000,000 Chinese killed by Mongols 1210-1219.
--35,000,000 Chinese killed by Mongols 1311-1340.
--40,000,000 Chinese killed by Chang Hsien Chung 1643-1647.
--66,700,000 Russians killed by Communist dictators 1917-1959.
--26,300,000 Chinese killed by Mao Tse Tung 1949-1965.
--2,700,000 Cambodians (1 in 3) killed by Pol Pot 1975-1979.
I'm not trying to minimize the ill-advised witch hunts or antisemitism within the Christian church. I am trying to dispell a common misconception that Christians are historically heartless killers. The numbers just don't support such a notion. |
