Christian fundamentalists are out of step politically in Sudan
Financial Times, April 25
Letters to the Editor: By A. AL KORONKY

Sir, Your article "US evangelists focus on Sudan to declare a holy war of words" (April 11) illustrated the nature of the anti-Sudanese campaign within Christian fundamentalist circles in the US.

It is a campaign tenaciously out of step with political developments both within Sudan and internationally. It is a lobby that ignores for example the fact that, far from wishing to continue the war, the Sudanese government has repeatedly offered a comprehensive ceasefire and an internationally supervised referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan.

These offers have been rejected or ignored by the Sudan People's Liberation Army movement. It is for the international community to judge the degree to which such intransigence is directly or indirectly encouraged by the positions taken by US evangelists such as Franklin Graham.
