"I give advice to many people, and last year my advice was pretty simple--exercise your options, sell the stock, pay the tax and pocket the rest." Well, this would have definitely been a good option last year for most people. But owning part of the company is nice, so I would generally say--exercise your options, sell enough stock to cover the cost of the options plus tax, keep the rest of the stock.
