Credit to you for being smarter then most gas station workers.

Case in point:

At a gas station in Illinois I was pumping gas using the clip to hold the "throttle" open on the pump. I was cleaning windows and checking my oil. I was not paying any attention to the pump. I looked back at the person who was in the car behind me at another pump and she was looking at my car rather quizically. So I took a gander around to the side with the pump and see gas gushing out all over the place. The clip had not released when the tank was full.

It was then I noticed the puddle of gas behind my car. It must have been 3 inches deep.

I quickly moved my car and went inside to pay and alert the station attendant of the problem. I get to the counter and start to tell her what had happened. Before I could get out half of what I wanted to tell her she stopped me and said "You know, you have to pay for all that gas."

Apparently she was not concerned with the impending doom. I tried to explain the peril to her but it fell on deaf ears. Couldn't even convince her to put a sign on the pump warning others that it sticks.

After realizing the battle was lost I GTFO of there as fast as I could.

Moral of the story... don't follow me into gas stations. It's dangerous.
