Yes, the Taliban is not very good, and I am sorry they became the dominant faction, although it is very backward country, there were few good alternatives.

There were other important things that Reagan did, including countering European neutralism and getting the intermediate range missiles in place; boosting military preparedness and morale; countering Soviet adventurism in Central America and the Caribbean basin; supporting Solidarity; proposing SDI; stepping up the political offensive, as when he called for Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall; and other such things.
