Mark, you said: "I agree with Phil, I personally know of NO ONE with any Iomega drive let alone a ZIP/JAZ/DITTO drive. I am a techie surrounded by ultra-techies and still have not seen anyone with an IOMEGA DRIVE. I know of know one who is even thinking buying one. It is a nice product for a certain sector of the market just as CD-ROM drives are (I know of very few that have those either)."

I guess Iomega drives must be more popular in some parts of the country than others. California seems to be a non-hot spot for them. You must admit, though, that 2 million Zip drives sold means someone, somewhere, must have them. Even if you don't personally know these people.

When you mentioned CD-ROM drives, you must have been referring to recordable CD? Surely your ultra-techie friends have CD-ROM drives.

As far as your contention that businesses are not going to spend extra bucks for "fancy items" I can only report what I have seen throughout the publishing and financial industries in New York. I've seen a whole lot of Zips and a growing number of Jaz drives.

Oh, and by the way, the home market for PCs is the fastest growing segment, far outpacing the growth in the business sector.

No, I wouldn't buy your Ken Griffey baseball card on the promise that he would hit a bunch of homeruns next year. But I would look at the trailing 12 months P/E on Iomega and make a reasonable guess that the next 12 months will change the picture dramatically.

I certainly hope to be able to say "I told you so" by this time next year, or sooner.
