Remember "Fun with Ficht"? Rfritz pointed out that this is still on the Evinrude web site:
"In 2006 the rules for outboards will change. But in 1999, Evinrude technology has changed the standards for both emissions and performance. These are premium engines, designed and built without compromise to be the best on the water. This year Evinrude's entire line - 36 models - exceeds EPA 2006 standards. That's not just news, that's revolutionary. And it makes this year a great time to be shopping for a new boat and motor. Why FICHT® is simply superior. Fuel Injection has been around for years in automobiles, and for quite a while in outboards as well. So what's new? What's new is a revolutionary, patented FICHT® fuel injection design which is so efficient, so simple, so elegant that engine designers in many industries are talking to OMC about it. FICHT® delivers the speed, power and acceleration you expect from a high-performance two-stroke engine, but with fuel efficiencies and emmissions numbers comparable to a four-stroke engine. Though you might get the idea by reading outboard sales literature that injection is injection, be aware that there are huge differences in design and performance. While all injector systems are designed to produce better engine performance and efficiency, don't confuse electronic fuel injection (EFI) with the newer generation direct fuel injection (DFI) like FICHT®, or our competitor's Orbital system. And there are huge differences between even these newer designs. By comparison, our competitor's Orbital fuel injection system is complex and clumsy, requiring a belt-driven compressor about the size of a 5 horse engine, 25 pounds of extra parts and a maze of very high-pressure fuel lines."
Note it's from 1999 model year, so they didn't get to point out how their simpler, superior design was also a fire/explosion hazard and how the Orbital systems wins awards for the Evinrude parent company, Bombardier, and wins endurance races. If you wish to see this for yourself, go to www.evinrude.com, select the Ficht technology link on the upper right side, then on the next page select "Ficht Inland Technology". |
