Hi ya Shalom. Thanks it's good to be back. Before I left I relished the thought of being out of the office for a full week, but like at least one of my companions on the trip -- I grew a little homesick to see my wife and son.
Scenery on the lake where we stayed and driving up the northeast shore of lake Superior was fantastic. The fishing was good on lake Oba, but not fantastic. I had visions of getting into schools and catching one walleye after another -- didn't happen, but we would catch 4 or 5 off of a point and then move to another point and catch some more. First time I had eaten walleye -- very good tasting mild-flavored fish. Caught a lot of pike while trying to catch the walleye. Fought with one "monster" pike for about five minutes or so, had my hand almost up his gills and he gave one last kick and was gone. (Every fishing trip has to have one story about the one that got away, right? Actually one of my fishing buddies did the same thing. Next year we'll take a net I guess.) Walleye fishing was slow one day and we went after the pike with our fly rods and some flies we tied one evening. Lotsa fun, but the pike tear up the flies pretty quick.
Weather was unseasonably hot - hit the '90's one day. Sunny every day except one. Enjoyed all the time I spent out on the lake, but had to stay inside the cabin in the evenings and early morning because of the skeeters and black flies -- ferocious. I got several large welts the first couple of days, but they went down after a day or two.
The week before we left, the camp called us -- wanted to upgrade us to a cabin with a toilet inside for another $30. Being cheap, we said no. After the bouts with the flies and skeeters, I think it might've been worth it.
Overall, we all had a really good time.
