The biz plan is to sell the kinds of gum you can't just buy at the checkout counter. Hopefully things like Beeman's Pepsin and BlackJack. Hopefully buy wholesale, sell retail, and have a minimum purchase.

It is cute, I think - he's only 13 - and is always scheming, trying to come up with a way to make money. Very fertile, not to say fevered brain. He's been making up business cards and business schemes for as long as I can remember. I was just sorting through my collection of business cards, and I see I have one from him as a pet groomer - that never actually happened - and one from him as the Duke of Mangoes - that didn't ever happen, either. At one point when I was really sick with RA and thought I'd never be able to go back to law, I mused about starting a spice and herb website, and within a few hours he had created a website and a logo and a business card.

He is very creative. Also a real pain - that's not the nice way to put it - he spent the evening threatening suicide because his English teacher is making him write 100 times "I behave as a gentleman at all times in English class" because she caught him saying "penguins suck" to another student. It was that or detention. That wasn't what sent him off the deep end - it was his turn to do dishes - I offered to do the dishes but he refused to say "thank you" so he had to do them himself. Now he is asserting that I am "evil" for refusing to do the dishes, and he refused to kiss me goodnight.:(

I try to encourage him to have positive outlets. He is very, very bright, and very hard to take. Some day the real world is going to slap him very hard in the face, and it's my job to get him ready. But I can't help protecting him, he's my baby. If anything ever happens to him, it will be my fault.

So. Gum. I can't separate it out from all the other stuff I worry about, trying to mother this . . . . what? Something bigger and brighter than I can really understand - and much harder to cope with than I ever was, I think - although maybe my own mother would disagree.;^)
