the virus is covered extensively at the symantec av center site, and it looks like virus definitions for W32.Magistr.24876@mm have been around for 6 weeks (March 13, 2001).

symantec says the virus is also known as: I-Worm.Magistr, PE_MAGISTR.A, W32.Magistr@mm

as for why nav did not pick it up at the yahoo site, quite possibly the yahoo tool is not updated frequently enough? that's all i can think of, unless it's a different strain.

so you opened the file and were told it is infected. is it now removed via your av software?
