One thing that occurs to me is that there is a big difference in latitude. I was in Paris last August, and the sun did not fully set until 10 in the evening. Back home, the longest day had the sun setting about 9:30, and that was long past. Also, the temperature in the evening was fairly cool. (The hottest day never reached 90 degrees). Thus, it was possible to have a leisurely, two hour dinner on the sidewalk at a bistro from 7:30 to 9:30, and still take an after dinner stroll in some daylight. In England, the sun sets even later, and it is even cooler........
