If an organization you belong requires you to practice evil, is it not your responsibility to disassociate yourself from it and then oppose it?
Otherwise, "I was only following orders" is a valid defense.

I think that you'd have to know it was evil. If you really believed in what you were doing and had some reasonable basis for believing it was good, you can't be expected to do an about face. In the case of MT, she was doing the will of an established, respectable organization. She was also doing a world-class job of it. If you do that good a job to advance your organization, you deserve your organization's highest accolades, in this case, sainthood.

That doesn't mean that people outside that organization's culture should be expected to ratify what they consider evil. They should respond according to their own moral compass.
