When did they ever say August to begin with?

Perhaps they never did, but its a very valid assumption to make. When one says this software product will ship in 2nd half of 01, presumably, that goal is being set and talked about because they expect the product to contribute to the bottom line in 2nd half 01. Due to back-to-school season, which basically starts Sept, you have to have the bits to the OEMs latest by July 31st if OEMs like CPQ, DELL are going to even sell that for BTS. If it gets delayed by even 15 days, the OEMs are going to bail and just postpone the whole darn thing (no one will switch advertising in the middle of a sale season).

The holiday season comes right on the heels of BTS - the next possible release date is Sept end/Oct 1st latest, because CPQ, HWP etc. have to stuff the channels for the XMas season.

So, they may not have explicitly said August, but that's about the only interpretation of shipping in the 2nd Half.
