I disagree X. People will hurt or enslave others if they perceive it to be in their self interest. They look to justify this action and religion is a convenient justification. People are seen as being different because they are not members of the same religion and since they are different it is supposedly ok to enslave them. In other cases it is different nationality or skin color or some other factor, whatever it takes to portray someone as not being as important or not having the same rights so that they can be used to benefit the slaver or slave owner rather then actually treated with dignity and respect.
