is somewhere between 1.5 and 4.6 million shares...
IMO that would be a mistaken assumption as far as the 4.6 million number is concerned. Sometime in the last two days, Yahoo has finally updated their GENI short interest figure. The current short interest number quoted on the GENI profile page at Yahoo is 1.58 million shares with the prior month short interest given as 4.65 million shares (IMO the prior month figure is incorrect - see #reply-15726113 , #reply-15726774 , and #reply-15728535 ). With the Yahoo update, the current GENI short interest numbers from various sources are:
Yahoo: 1.58 million ( biz.yahoo.com )
Bloomberg: 1.576 million (as reported by who cares? in #reply-15728555 )
Bridge: 1,576,483 (as reported by Ben Wa in #reply-15727396 )
NASDAQ Trader: 1,576,483 ( nasdaqtrader.com )
Note that within the limitations of rounding, these are all the same number. This is hardly surprising since they all presumably are obtained from the NASD's compilation of the short interest from its reporting members.
As previously noted, I believe the prior month GENI short interest figure of 4.65 million shares to be incorrect. If, however, it is correct, there has apparently been a reduction in GENI short interest by about two thirds from 4.65 million shares in the prior month to 1.58 million shares in the current month. If so, IMO this suggests markedly reduced prospects of a successful short squeeze. |
