Hello: Great forum you are running here. I was wondering if you could comment on a problem I am having.

I am running Windows 98 and have tried to do a SCANDISK (THOROUGH)on my C drive, using the facility under System Tools.

What happens is that, after a couple of hours a message comes up saying "Scandisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable Scandisk to finish running sooner"

Now, I am not running any other active programs while Scandisk is running. I do have McAfee virus scan loaded. I also have an "always on" ADSL internet connection, but the browser is not active. There was no screen saver running.

When I hit control-alt-delete, I get the following list of programs under End Task:

Explorer
Realplay
Avconsol
Sttray
Systray
Alogserv
Ptsnoop
Webscanx
Vshwin32
Vsstat
Cmmpu

I have to confess that I have no idea what most of these are, but I assume they must be running in background(?)

I should also mention that I ran a virus scan afterwards and nothing came up.

Any suggestions as to what may be happening here?

Thanks,
Tom
