If so, I find that a rather amazing answer and one that, I believe, few others would agree with. I realize that gov'ts rarely intervene to stop genocide in another country, but that that is because they do not wish for a war- -not because they approve. Stopping Hitler's genocide was done, not to save Jews, but because Hitler attacked countries with mutual defense treaties with other countries (Poland, France, and Britain), attacked countries directly (the USSR), or declared war on other countries (the US). Nevertheless, is there any reasonable person who regrets stopping that genocide?
Parenthetically, no intervened to stop Stalin or Mao's genocides because a major war would result. But would it have been wrong to do so? |
