Many engines require you to pay to be listed, and pay per click search engines are becoming more popular. While it's easy to complain, it only makes sense. They're providing a service, and they have to make some money! I think in the long run it will help to cut down on spamming and irrelevant searches, and make the whole search engine world better. At least they're not charging the user to search!
