Will hiring temps improve Dell's reputation for quality? If so, how?
Yes, certainly, if the No. 1 player in the "space" is cutting back, there will be added pressure on the others. No doubt. But I just can't see it as a sign of strength on Dell's part. Unless, well, they've decided to do whatever it takes to bankrupt everyone else and gain market share that way.
Dell grew mighty big, mighty fast, so growing pains would be expected. Reorganization would be normal. But "substantial" job cuts by the industry leader would send a clear message through the supply chain, and to competitors.
Not to mention the remaining employees and managers. What happens to morale?
Maybe I'm just way, way off base here. But Chambers recently had to make this kind of decision, and he said he felt it was the most difficult thing he had ever had to do.
Apparently, Dell is not the next Dell.
