No, I doubt that a Palomino notebook will run at 1.3 GHz on battery power, even for a short time. Batteries would not be able to handle the power drain safely.
My point was that most people use their notebooks as portable computers; they are plugged in 90% of the time. If a Palomino notebook can run at 1.3 GHz plugged in, that is a competitive advantage. However, I imagine that such a notebook would still be advertised as 1GHz.
As I stated before, a 1.3GHz Palomino notebook would require a more substantial AC power supply, which perhaps would be too large to be practical. (Then again, there are docking stations. In that case, you would only be able to run 1.3GHz at home.) Also, we have to deal with the excess heat in such a small case. A two speed fan could solve this problem, but would it be too noisy?
All of this is very speculative, but the fact that 1.3GHz is mentioned, and not the more obvious 1.5GHz, lends credence to the story. Given the constraints on a portable AC power supply and notebook's fan, 1.3GHz would seem to be the limit. (Based on power consumption rumors) |
