Older sdram price continue to erode to clear inventory. Distributors are protected on price erosion. But the promotion will sell more drams which are higher price as well. The windows ME needs a minimum of 32 mb, the more the fast computer operation. What the XP version(in beta 2) will need for fat clients, no body knows yet. Many people are installing 256 or more megabytes(512-768 is the limit?). This X'mas, Intel will be pushing towards 2 ghz cpu. All that means semiconductors will be over another obsolescence and replacement cycle. More semiconductor business than ever is coming. Going thru layoff to clear dead wood now makes so much sense. New hiring later will bring in some captive(in the pocket) business again(just like the last cycle).
