I am not so sure it is a pressing problem. In the United States, there is a large measure of respect for expertise and admiration of inventors. I suppose there is some ambivalence. I was picked on to some extent in school for being smart, but that was by a segment of the population. When I was on "It's Academic", a high- school quiz show franchised in various markets, I got all kinds of plaudits, especially because I was a sophomore and the team anchor.

Anyway, respecting someone's professional achievements is far different from assuming omni- competency.
