The "spike" in the need for software engineers has been fairly recent. After all, the personal computer was still in its infancy at the beginning of the '90s, and the commercial Internet is less than a decade old. With an overbundance of doctors and lawyers, and a reasonable number of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, the problem is not one of seeking graduate degrees, but one of focus in a relatively narrow area. It is meaningless that we had an indigenous shortfall, and part of the genius of the system is that we make up for labor shortages by attracting immigration........
