Since my son is a junior in high school, I happen to have a list of baccalaureate's awarded in 1999:

19% in business and marketing
8% in education/teacher education
9% in engineering technologies
7% in English
10% in biology/life sciences
19% in social science and history

This is not comprehensive, unfortunately, but does suggest that business is more attractive than engineering to a lot of students. I would imagine that is because of math, though. After all, social science and history has the same percentage as business/marketing.....
