Random musings:

I was shocked to see what you folks are paying per gallon even in the oil pasture. This and maybe a few too many Shiner bocks made me really ponder the depths of the issues we face. We have a HUGE problem coming this summer and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. Conservation is the ONLY alternative that can have any immediate impact. Production sounds great but we are already at capacity (or damn near) in terms of refining. Building a new facility is a tall order and is at least 5 years away at best. Who wants one in their back yard? I don't! I'm not an environmental Nazi but the bigger environmental problem may be NOT having the regulatory controls. As we speak countries like Mexico are building refineries to supply us - you guessed it - GAS! Not oil, GAS. If we haven't learned anything else from the past we had better study and learn the end game of toxic disasters in smaller countries willing to whore their land at any cost to score the almighty dollar. This brings us to alternative sources. Alternative fuel/energy sources (which sounds great) just isn't there right now. With a NASA like effort that took us to the moon in 10 years; we could find some answers but we're still a long way off. Furthermore we have no energy policy to fund the type of research needed for a quick solution. Now before you Clintonites go spouting about GW allow me to enlighten you - HE HAD NO ENERGY POLICY EITHER! I fear this could be the real deal this summer - BLACKOUTS and not of the rolling variety. You think its rough now....just wait and see the results of blackouts.
