Tom Meredith is stupid. Nobody wins a price war. Just like nobody wins a real war. At the worse, somebody survives and somebody dies. Does he think Compaq is going to die? There is a chance Dell may lose. Why is he taking that risk? Ego not sound business drives a price war. Is price the only thing Dell has to sell? When price is the only thing you have to sell, you will lose. Competitors who develop innovative new products will eventually find a way to replace your price driven commodities with better products.

Dell is looking like a better short every time they open their mouth. They may turn out to be all sales and no profits.<G>
