TAIWAN PRESS: Utd Microelec Rethinks 2nd Plant In Tainan TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) has temporarily stopped its investment on a second plant in a high-technology industrial park in southern Tainan, reports the Economic Daily, quoting UMC Chairman John Hsuan. The company will review its plans to build five plants in the park, based on economic conditions and the impact of any vibrations from a planned bullet train that will run near the park. ++++++++++++ TAIWAN PRESS: Banks Cut Svgs Deposit, Prime Lending Rates TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Eleven banks cut their savings deposit rates Monday, and among them, six reduced their prime lending rate in an effort to follow the central bank's recent rate cuts, reports the Economic Daily. However, the reduction in prime lending rates - by banks including Land Bank of Taiwan, United World Chinese Commercial Bank (Q.UWC) and International Commercial Bank of China (Q.ICB) - were less than 0.01 percentage point.
