NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - The stock market is looking to open on the steady side Tuesday with little action in the pre-market and investors maintaining a wait-and-see attitude.

There will be a couple of economic numbers to process Tuesday morning: the National Association of Purchasing Management Index, seen coming in at 43.8 percent; and March construction spending, expected to rise 0.4 percent. View Economic Preview and economic calendar and forecasts.

June S&P 500 futures gave up 2.90 points, or 0.2 percent, and were trading about 2.90 points below fair value, according to HL Camp & Co. Nasdaq futures, meanwhile, were near flat, edging up 0.50 point.

In the Treasury arena, prices struggled across the board.

The 10-year Treasury note was off 1/8 to yield ($TNX) 5.355 percent while the 30-year government bond shed 6/32 to yield ($TYX) 5.80 percent.

In the currency segment, dollar/yen gave up 0.7 percent to 122.61 while euro/dollar edged down 0.2 percent to 0.8869.
