Re: Looks like the Athlons are really a hot number.

Not nearly as big and hot as P4/Foster, but still pretty big and hot. Maybe someday AMD will make a chip so big and hot that it needs a 1 pound heat sink bolted to the case - like the presently shipping P4s.

A topic even bigger and hotter, IMHO, is Intel burning up 15 years of accumulated capital in 15 months.

Engaging in the current price war with Intel's current cost structure looks pretty likely to do that. Not that they have a choice. As has been pointed out, AMD started this particular war, on AMD's chosen schedule....

I especially like the way Jerry made a lot of big talk about FAB 35 breaking ground soon, then got quiet as soon as Intel had committed itself to a $7.5 Billion/year 2 year expansion program. Then Jerry slashed prices so that everybody's cash flow tanked.

If only the good ship Intel could turn a little faster than a fully laden supertanker, eh? Oh, well.
