Around where I live, we use Quahog (big clams) shells, but it is absolutely not something you want to do in warm weather. The stench is unbelievable. Part of the problem with my yard is that a previous owner converted my garage into a living space, and instead of breaking up and pulling out the driveway and walkway, he just dumped about 6 inches of fill over it all. Now when it gets really hot and dry, the grass dies over those spots (in the exact outlines of the cement below). I re-seeded two years ago. Looked good for about a month. My neighbors don't say anything, but I know what they're thinking. Quahog
