When I moved into my house they had just dug out an underground oil tank (long story). Anyway, they brought in a lot of fill to make up for the soil they were required to remove. They also seeded and put hay over it. I finally got so sick & tired of looking at that, and nothing happening that I took out a metal garden rake and went over the whole ugly area. Let me tell you, it was back breaking work! I must have raked out over a 100 lbs. of rock and other rubble that was in the fill. When I finally got if clear I re-seeded and watered frequently. Grass finally started to grow. The next year & every year after I have fertilized in the spring. I now have a pretty decent lookin' lawn.
