TRW Creates New Company to Provide Ultrafast Telecommunications Products businesswire.com The first of Velocium's InP products is a 40 Gbps OC-768 integrated photoreceiver, which will be available in volume quantities beginning this month. Additional OC-768 and OC-192 products will be available in volume quantities by this summer. TRW's InP technology allows improved high-speed operation in fiber optic networks and also provides an integration platform for optoelectronics. From AXT's 2000 10-K, page 3: BUSINESS -- OVERVIEW: THE AXT ADVANTAGE: - .... - Introduction of InP substrates. Even GaAs cannot meet the requirements for increasing system performance and network bandwidth of some applications, including SONET OC-768 applications that operate at speeds up to 40 gigabits per second. Manufacturers of these devices are turning to InP substrates that can support these features. We have successfully used our VGF technique to develop InP and we were among the first to offer four-inch InP substrates. TRW is already a long-time AXT customer for GaAs, so AXT is well-positioned to leverage that relationship as TRW rolls out InP devices. Velocium... sounds like a substance.
