A friend who has a boy in HS told me his son came home saying he learned square roots. On a calculator. My friend sat down and showed his son how to find a square root with a pencil and paper. Went into detail about what squared and square root meant.

The next afternoon he was called to the principals office and chewed out. The school didn't like parents "interfering
" with the teachers. This is a school that spends $7,500 per student per year.
