I am testing out the visual difference between a digital LCD and an analog LCD right now. At first blush, it appears the digital is clearer. NEC Mitsubishi just dropped the street price on their 18 inch LCD from $1899 to $1149 (Buy.com sales it for $1049). It is an analog. A 18 inch LCD is the same viewable screen as a 19 inch CRT monitor. I was previously using a 19 inch Dell Trintron and a 19 inch Viewsonic.
