hi e

re, "Steps To Take Before Untethering The Electronic Umbilical"...

if you are about to switch over to a new pc and you are concerned about getting the new one to connect to the internet, i recommend copying as many of your existing (soon to be old) settings as possible. either go in there with a pad and pen and write stuff down so it makes sense to you, or do print screens, save the shot to a file and print the pics. once you get the hang of print screen, it's a lot more efficient than pen and paper. but do what works for you now.

what settings do you want to save? your isp settings... the dial up configurations. if you have cable then you have network settings to save.

the only reason you would be doing this is if you do not want to call your isp tech support for help setting up your new internet connection.

another idea is that your old pc will be right there for net access if the new one won't connect and you want to reach someone on this thread or elsewhere. just switch the cable modem or phone line or what have you from one pc to the other.

really, the best recommendations i have for what you are asking is to think of all the settings that you might need to connect and get where you want to go once your new pc is running.

hope this makes sense

:)
