Talisman Energy Turned Down Offers for Sudan Assets, Paper Says
By Sean B. Pasternak

Calgary, Alberta, May 2 (Bloomberg) -- Talisman Energy Inc. has rejected several offers for its Sudan assets and has no plans to sell them, the National Post reported, citing Chief Executive Jim Buckee.

Buckee said last year that Canada's sixth-largest oil and gas company would consider selling the project, which has been criticized by investors and human rights-group for allegedly helping to finance a civil war in the African country. At yesterday's annual meeting, Buckee said withdrawing from Sudan won't help resolve the conflict, the paper said.

Talisman has increased efforts to show its Sudanese work in a positive light, the paper said. The company showed investors a video yesterday of a school and hospital that the company is ``supporting'' near its oil installations.

Calgary, Alberta-based Talisman is part owner of an oil project in Sudan along with the Chinese, Malaysian and Sudanese state oil companies.
