I don't disapprove at all of "that sort of thing". Nor do I really disapprove. It's none of my business. In general, though, I fall a little more on the conservative side when evaluating the degree of care to which one should be entitled at public expense.

There is a process these days that I find disturbing. It is the ease with which "I want" becomes "I need", and "I need" becomes "I have a right to", and "I have a right to" becomes "I am entitled to". Eventually we end up with people who think they are entitled to anything they want. I'm not sure that's a great idea, and I'm not sure that really wanting to change gender should entitle anyone to receive an expensive medical procedure at public expense.

I'm not convinced that anyone "needs" to change gender so desperately that the rest of us should be required to pay for it.
