Over the past few years, it's become a way for fast-growing technology companies to bury all their financial garbage when they're faced with reporting rotten bottom-line numbers. .... Instead of just "goodwill," which lets companies amortize charges associated with an acquisition, companies now use pro-forma results to describe what their results would look like without the effects of accounting, investment losses, advertising costs, research and development, venture capital losses ... you name it. Truer words have never been said.
