AMD Says PC Sector Recovery has Started

thestreet.com

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE - news) said the struggling personal computer sector is showing signs of real improvement.

"I feel better about the current quarter than I did two weeks ago, when we announced our first-quarter results," AMD Chairman and CEO W.J. "Jerry" Sanders III said Wednesday during a Merrill Lynch tech conference in New York. Sanders added, "The PC business has definitely started to recover."

He called the second quarter a "trough quarter" for the semiconductor industry, which has seen weak sales recently because of slack demand and fat inventories. "We believe that going forward ... that we can see substantial growth for the PC industry and AMD will get a disproportionate share," Sanders said.

Did anyone watch the presentation? I read that Sanders said that the recently announced NEC servers use Palominos and laptops will arrive at up to 1.4 GHz. Can anyone confirm this?
