third, I see the missile shield as an opportunity to fund the development of high speed real time process control and greatly advancing the state of that art. The effects on manufacturing and other complex processes will have very positive effects.

Few understand what have .75 gigflops of computing today for less the 100 bucks a processor means. The computing power density and weight ratio of today are 10 times or more better than the last time around.

As to Russia, they will do whatever they will do based upon whatever political faction of talking heads is in power. I don't see this as a big political deal. In any case in that Russia cannot gainfully employ it technologists in private industry. Having them work on weapons keeps them busy but does in no way presents a threat anywhere near as large as a wacho country with a couple of weapons.

I also don't see China and Russia coming together any more or less because of this issue. The US provides capitol to China. Russia provides what? China wants to be the big on the block in their area and that is source of contention. China may become a stretgic (threat)enemy over time. Missile defense is strength.
