westpac at the risk of taking criticism i would like to comment/question the bear market predictions I started "investing" about 4 years ago I watched the bubble get bigger and bigger I attempted to short yhoo and amzn only to jump out after 1 day (thankfully) I shorted on the premise that the valuation of these companies was insane and not economically sound fortunately i went long in many tech stocks and made a good return (ORCL, ERTS, WAVX, MCRE) (i bought a house last summer and basically sold all of my equities. at the time i was embarrased to get out - now i am a genius <g>) in the background i watched the bear threads, BK, Ask Mohan etc. and watched the bears get slaughtered I love reading Jay and this thread and have a lot more respect for the "short/bear" positions however why is today any different than 1997/1998/1999? could the bears still be wrong? could we see 401K money continue to pour into mutual funds? do pensions really exist anymore or is everyone's retirement money in Fidelity mutual funds? could we see Joe six-pack put his money in e-trade instead of a passbook, paying his bills electronically inbetween surfing for sports and porno? what about US population growth and the American dream? As American technology pours into global economies via browsers, isn't it possible that "The Long Boom" is still in its infancy? thanks for any input please don't insult
