Scott,

<<Ever been to Venice Beach CA?>>

I think Brian answered your question with a question better than I could have.

Those days are a memory that I still have trouble accepting. I didn't mention it to draw attention to myself, but to add to discussion about war issues and dissent.

At the time Kovic was a living example in my own home of a man who went through the hell of Vietnam as a Marine. After that my Mother always told me not to register for the draft when the time came. She also said to "run to Canada" if they ever called my number.

On my 18th birthday I went down to the post office and registered and never told my Mom.

In retrospect, do I think he could have handled it better? Yes, but since I didn't go through that hell, the answer is presumptuous.

It's sad for me to remember what a pitiful thing Ron had become physically. I still remember him stoned and asking my mother and some of her friends at our house on occassion, "How much to get laid?" But we all knew that the land mine that made him a parapalegic destroyed his reproductive organs.

Yea, it was the 60's/early 70's and it was VENICE, CA. If you weren't there you have no idea what that place was like.
