Ah! So it was Ben Franklin who said that! Thanks for correcting my citation.

I think you may be right. Experience, indeed, is not the best school (except in the sense that it likely leaves the most indelible impression). Even things that can be learned well only with experience are not best learned exclusively with experience.

In the case of analysts' forward projections of Gorilla company earnings I might be willing to accept the statement, "Experience is not the best teacher" as a near-axiom (unless, of course, those analysts have RTFM :-)
