In my opinion, and I know what I'm talking about here, the article's author is one of the top half-dozen or so China experts in the country, and one of the top half-dozen or so younger experts in security studies and international relations theory as well. He's also totally honest and sincere--that is, if he says something it's because he believes it, not because he's pushing any kind of an agenda.

Now all that doesn't mean he's 100% right all the time, but it means that there's nobody out there whose judgments I take more seriously, and only a handful whose judgments I take as seriously. So I'd say that one should take his views the same way one would, say, the views of the top posters on the Moderated Q thread--not as a substitute for one's own DD, but as an important component of one's DD.
